The Role Player Name: Meeks/Anya/Whatever. xD Age: Seventeen. How Many Characters you got on here?: Just this one, so far. Where have you found us?: Referred by the admin ^^. How Long do you RP?: Around seven years now. What Time Zone?: Eastern.
The Character Full Name: Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins Age: Somewhere over a thousand; appears to be in her twenties. Date Of Birth: Unknown. She claims it's the Fourth of July, though.
Race: Human/Ex-Demon Powers: Though she no longer has any demonic powers, Anya has hung on to much of the knowledge she acquired in her demon days. She knows quite a bit about various sorts of demons, rituals, and spells. She also has some skill in weapon combat, particularly swordsmanship--as portrayed in "Chosen" when she fought to the death.
Personality: Your typical, average person's first impression of Anya would probably be an immediate assumption that she's a bit of a nutjob. Having lived as a havoc-wreaking demon for over a thousand years, she still seems to be having some difficulty adjusting to the human world. Then again, she's always been something of an outcast, so perhaps she's just hopelessly odd.
First off, the ex-demon doesn't seem to have a filter between her mind and her mouth. Anya is astoundingly blunt, direct, and at times rather inappropriate. She simply does not understand the concept of tact or sugar-coating things--what's the point of that? No, if nothing else Anya can be trusted to speak whatever's on her mind, consequences be damned. It isn't that she's intentionally trying to be unpleasant or rude...she simply doesn't understand that she's saying anything wrong. Even when she's saying the most shockingly inappropriate things, there is a quality of innocence about her. She doesn't mean to be offensive, or rude, or strange. She just is.
She's quite the chatterbox; once you get one of her spiels started it's very difficult to get her to be quiet again. And (as if she already didn't stick out from the human community enough) the way she speaks is somewhat strange as well. As Anya herself would put it, "she speaks with a strange evenness and selects her words a shade too precisely". Her odd speech patterns are emphasized by the fact that she pretty much takes everything literally. Needless to say, holding a conversation with the ex-demon is...quite an experience.
Anya doesn't put on a charade, though. She can be counted on to always be upfront with you, seeing as she usually means every word she says. One always knows where they stand with Anya. And if she does decide she likes you, you pretty much have a friend for life. Because although she'd never admit it, her newfound human emotions have had a profound effect on her. Although half the time she doesn't understand what she's feeling, Anya has learned a lot about friendship, loyalty, and love. It is her ability to feel all of these things, as well as her undeniable sense of compassion, that prove her capable of redemption from her demon days.
Likes:
- Xander.
- Her friends.
- Money.
- Feeling useful.
Dislikes:
- Bunnies.
- Being ignored or dismissed.
- D'Hoffryn
- Things she doesn't understand about the human world.
Strengths:
- She is extremely organized, particularly when it comes to money. You can always count on Anya to get your affairs in order; she's been known to often keep charts, balances, organized receipts, and the like. She's a great financial planner--and she knows how to drive a hard bargain.
- Anya's one thousand years as a demon have led her to become extremely knowledgeable in the areas of history, magic, demonology, and language. Having traveled the world, she can speak most languages--her most fluent being English, Russian, French, Latin, and Old Norse(her mother tongue).
- She's an extremely creative and imaginative individual. Although she may seem clueless, Anya will often be the first to come up with innovative new ideas or better ways at looking at things. For example, when the Scooby Gang was at a loss at how to defeat or even hurt the hell-god Glory, it was Anya who came up with the idea of using the Dagon Sphere and Olaf's hammer against her.
- Though she may not look it, Anya is quite capable--both physically and mentally. As a demon she was extensively trained in weapon combat, a skill which has stuck with her despite the loss of her powers. As for mentally, well, it can be said quite accurately that Anya is never at a loss for words. She's nothing if not witty.
Weaknesses:
- Her main weakness is her inability to understand human nature. Having been a vengeance demon for a thousand years, Anya has found it difficult to fit into the human world again. She doesn't understand the need for tact, and often comes off as blunt, insensitive, and downright rude.
- She is very materialistic. The girl is practically obsessed with capitalism and making money, and can occasionally be vain or selfish.
- Her emotions could be considered a weakness. Partly because she doesn't completely understand what she's feeling half the time, and partly because she has become so attached to the people in her life that she'd be devastated if she lost any of them.
- Lastly, Anya has a horrible, incurable fear of bunnies. She will have absolutely nothing to do with them, and refuses to go anywhere near the furry little creatures.
Hair: Currently blonde and a little longer than shoulder length, although it's constantly changing. Eyes: Brown.
Appearance: Standing at about 5'4, Anya has a light, slender frame. Her complexion is smooth and somewhat pale--demons don't tan, after all, and as a human it seems she doesn't have a tendency to either.
Anya is constantly doing different things with her hair, to the point where it would be difficult to give a solid description of it. Naturally, it is lightly curled and wavy, although depending on her mood she may or may not straighten it. It's length varies as well; usually she prefers it shorter, though lately she's been letting it grow out. Currently, it falls a little way past her shoulders. Her hair's natural color is dark brown, however this often changes as well. As of now, it's dyed a light golden blonde color. Perhaps Anya's habit of changing her appearance has to do with her search for her own identity as a human being.
Her eyes are bright and extremely expressive. Wide and chocolate-brown in color, Anya can be described as a bit 'bambi-eyed'. Her expression is never cryptic or difficult to read, as she is normally very inept at hiding her emotions. With lightly flushed cheeks and a wide, earnest smile, the ex-demon is fairly pretty. ..Don't tell her that, though, because it'd probably go to her head.
Picture:
Parents: Deceased. Kids: None. Married/Dating/Single: Xander? Although they weren't together when she died, she still has feelings for him. Straight/gay/Lesbian/ Bisexual: Straight.
History: Roughly eleven hundred years ago, Anya was born in a tiny Swedish village. Her name, then, was Aud. Life in her village was primitive and simple, as long as one were to obey the rules society set down. Aud, however, wasn't exactly adept at this. She was an extremely inquisitive individual who did not hesitate to speak her mind, and her fellow villagers did not look kindly upon such qualities. Aud's peculiar nature soon set her at odds with the people living around her, and as she grew older she became known as something of an outcast.
Somehow, however, this never seemed to bother her. Aud either did not notice the townspeople's irritation, or didn't care. She was happy with the simplicity of her life, especially after the finding the one person who seemed to be able to tolerate her: Olaf. Olaf was a large, blundering man who thought quite a lot of himself and...not so much of others. But he put up with her, and could usually manage to listen to her various ramblings without much more complaint than a few occasional grumbles. And so Aud grew to love him dearly for it--or at least thought she did. The two were soon married, and for a time she was more or less happy.
Of course, this did not last. Olaf's attentions grew more fleeting as he became more and more impatient with his talkative wife, and as he grew more distant, Aud began to grow suspicious. Upon investigating further, she discovered that her husband was cheating on her with a local barmaiden--a fact that most of the village already seemed to be aware of. Enraged and humiliated, Aud immediately sought revenge. Though she was not a witch, she had some knowledge of herbs and basic magic spells, and using this she literally turned Olaf into a troll in an act of vengeance.
An angry and bewildered Olaf immediately wreaked havoc on the village, and Aud was left to coldly watch the chaotic effects of her spell from the sidelines. At this time, she was approached by an ancient, powerful demon by the name of D'Hoffryn. D'Hoffryn, as he explained, was a leader of a group of creatures known as vengeance demons. He recruited humans who showed a particular vindictive streak, and ascended them to demonic level...if they would agree to work for him in return, of course. He made this offer to Aud, convincing her that it was "her destiny". Broken, spiteful, and with a newfound harsh outlook on the cruel world she lived in, Aud agreed.
And so she became a new entity, taking on a new name in order to leave her human life behind completely. She became known as Anyanka, patron saint of scorned women, and quickly earned a fearsome reputation as one of the most ruthless, merciless vengeance demons in existence. For a thousand years, Anyanka took pleasure in traveling the world and wreaking havoc wherever she went. Wherever she sensed pain and heartbreak, she would sweep in an manipulate the broken individual in question, slyly provoking their anger and will to seek revenge. Eventually, Anyanka would trick her victims into wishing something horrible on whoever had hurt them...and if these wishes weren't chaotic enough for her satisfaction, she would twist them into something even more awful. Anyanka was the very embodiment of "be careful what you wish for". With every wish she granted, and every act of vengeance she committed, she lost more and more of her humanity. In time, Anyanka grew to thoroughly enjoy the turmoil she created, which ranged from turning boys into slugs to literally starting wars (just ask, and she'll enthusiastically tell you about her part in beginning the Russian Revolution). Though in her own eyes her work was some twisted form of dealing out justice, Anyanka soon became consumed by her demonic identity. She grew powerful, terrible, feared.
...Then, just like that, it ended. In the year of 1997, Anyanka's thirst for vengeance brought her to the little town of Sunnydale, California. Her chosen client: a high school student by the name of Cordelia Chase, who was distraught after discovering her boyfriend had cheated on her. Anyanka tricked Cordelia into making a wish that the demon would use to create a horrific alternate universe--some of her most devastating work yet. Unfortunately for Anyanka, Cordelia happened to be associated with Buffy Summers, the infamous vampire slayer. Any creatures of the night who tried messing around in Sunnydale had Buffy to deal with, as Anyanka would soon discover. To break out of the alternate dimension and undo Anyanka's magic, Buffy and her friends destroyed the demon's power source: her jade necklace.
The action not only reversed Cordelia's wish, but also rendered Anyanka powerless and mortal. In short, she became human once again. At first, she was absolutely infuriated and immediately sought to regain her powers. She tried everything from spell-casting to appealing to D'Hoffryn itself, but the reality was that she was hopelessly trapped in the human world. As a high school student, no less. With high school student feelings. Talk about hell.
With no other choice but to try and blend into this world, Anyanka adopted a human name: Anya Jenkins. She would soon discover that she'd highly underestimated the effects her newfound humanity would have on her, starting with her growing attraction to one Xander Harris(ironically, the very boy she'd come to Sunnydale to seek vengeance against). As time went by, Anya slowly began to find herself falling in love with him, and becoming entangled in his life. Xander happened to be good friends with Buffy and her little gang--and while Anya only reluctantly accepted them at first, she eventually found herself a willing member of their little group. As the years went by and she forged stronger connections with these people, Anya found herself experiencing emotions she hadn't felt in over a thousand years: friendship, grief, loyalty, love. The ex-demon began to change and soften, succumbing to these feelings and understanding for the first time what humanity really meant.
Even when she was eventually offered her vengeance demon powers back, Anya found that she could no longer bear to cause pain and destruction. The fact was, she had truly become human again in every sense. She was no longer Anyanka. She was Anya.
When Sunnydale was attacked by The First Evil and its army of enhanced vampires, Anya realized how much her friends--and Xander, the love of her life--meant to her. Rather than run from the threat, Anya stood and fought even as a powerless human. She died in this battle, defending the ones she'd (somewhat reluctantly) grown to love.
Recently, however, it seems that Anya has been brought back. She doesn't know how, or why, but if The Powers are granting her this favor...she most certainly isn't going to complain!
